Have you noticed it? The smell of Freesias in the air. For me they’re the first sign that Spring is here. I was walking my daughter to school this morning and when that honey-sweet scent hit us we both mm’d with delight. I told her what that smell meant and she proceeded to skip to the end of the street, the furthest she’s skipped yet.
Spring brings us the warm sun on our back, the bright green fluff of new growth on the trees, and colourful buds that pop up everywhere. I come from a textile design background, so colour is one of my favourite things, and there was barely a day I wasn’t drawing flowers. Cute little ditzy florals, oversized sweeping blooms, bouquets and sprigs, buds and trailing vines. There is no such thing as too many florals for a textile designer; it’s the season we were born for.
