We check in with our founder Jason Chongue to see what he is up to in the garden.
What garden projects have you got on at the moment?
It’s been cold and wet, so I’ve been using the time to shuffle my potted plants on the top terrace. A mix of terracotta shapes and hardy plants which I have been collecting over time. Around them I am planting a series of bulbs. Daffodils, alliums and irises. I’m hoping they look as if they just sprung out organically.
Do you have any daily rituals?
Plenty! I start and end my day checking in on the animals. Feeding the goats and alpacas, then making my way through the garden to check on the chickens and ducks. I find it gives me some quiet thinking time and a nice buffer before and after my days’ work. It’s important to have a routine when my work life can get chaotic with projects, especially with increased interstate travel at the moment.
I also like tending to the garden at sunset. Whether it be planting a few plants I’ve collected the past few weeks or deadheading and shaping some plants. There is something really grounding about daily time in the garden. Seeing the silhouette of the garden as the sun goes down is also a bonus. I find it so beneficial seeing the basic structure of any garden to know what to add.
