Aphelandra squarrosa (Zebra Plant).


The Aphelandra squarrosa is a moderate care house plant that will thrive in the right condiditons. Originating in southern Brazil, it is truly a jungle plant. It prefers a bright, indirect, filtered light and will do best in a high humidity environment; setting the pot on a tray filled with pebbles and water or regular misting should be an integral part of care for a zebra plant.

LIGHT
Bright, indirect, filtered light is preferable. Morning sun is tolerated but keep out of very hot sunny locations.

WATER
Aphelandra are best kept in reliably moist soil but allow then top third to dry out in between waters in the growing period, reducing this further in the autumn and winter.

IDEAL TEMPERATURE
Because they are tropical, Aphelandra zebra plants prefer warm climates and will do well in average household temperatures around 20°C.
